Oh, I envy you so much! I can't count how many times I've read about poor Joubert, who have to show his programs along with Preaubert for French Federation to decide who will go to Torino with Florent Amodio.
Oh, the words of their President of Federation after the Olympics were very similar to my usual words about Plushenko. Although I can't say he was totaly wrong, because Jouber's place at the Games... well, it was really something deserving nothing sunny and fluffy. But now Jouber's fans are making some kind of martyr of him, and it's really annoying
Everybody can fail once in a while. I know a boy who was 17-th at the 2002 JWC, but guess what happened the next time he came to JWC. ;) (I know, I know, don't say it! *gg*)
In Joubert's case, I think he really should be spared all this nastiness. Sure, he should be beaten over the head with something, but not hard enough to kill. That's the problem with both our Federations, I think. First we sing praises and love them endlessly - and the next moment we're stomping our feet all over their faces shouting how unworthy they are. One fail makes us unreasonable. At least Joubie has his fans, that are not abandoning him [yet].
You know I'm not that much of his fan, and I used to be terribly envious of the fact that it was his third fucking Games. Joubert is not a boy anymore, you know? And he surely understands that it was his last chance, so I can assure you it's bad enough for him as it is, without the addition from the Federation, the press and the public.
I partly agree with you. Especially about our Federations *gg* But to begin with I really don't think going to the Worlds will do Joubert good. I'd like to be wrong, because although not being his fan I still wish him mostly all the best, but going to Torino in his condition... I don't think it's the best idea. He isn't very psychologically stable (in fact, he is very psychologically unstable, to be true), so going to the Worlds, making those mistakes again (and he was making the same mistakes again while skating against Alban, and now it's really something to think about) and winnig nothing again... I don't think it'll be useful. But as I've said, I'd be really glad for him proving me wrong.
And apart from Joubert, I've always thought that the idea of the World Championship after the Olympics is reallly crazy.
That was not exactly what I was talking about. Whether he can handle Worlds now or not, whether he's stable enough or not has nothing to do with the fact, that they're unnecessarily adding to it by making the team ex-leader jump through the hoops. There should be a solid decision about the skaters being on the team in the beginning of the season. There are rules, there are Nationals. You do this - you get that. You don't do this - you don't get that. The rules of the game should be clear from the beginning. There should be no trying to fall between two stools, so to speak.
So, if Joubert is on the team and hasn't done anything Lutaesque *gg* to deserve a disqualification, then he should be left alone. If he has no right to be on the team, having not participated in the Nationals, then he should be left alone even the more so, and Amodio, Ponsero and Preaubert should go to the Worlds. There should be some consistency, you know? If you're on the team? You go. If you're not on the team? You don't go. All these elaborate schemes with test skates and all the shit just irritate the hell out of me, honestly. Stress the athletes even more by having them do numerous test skates after the Olympics, oh what a way to go.
I don't know what shape Joubert is in, I haven't seen him this season. If you say he's unfit to go, then I have no reason to not believe you. and I personally really don't care much whether he comes to the Worlds or not. I just think that he should be spared all this humiliation, because yesterday they adored him to the skies and back and today they hate him, and it just looks bad. I firmly believe in sticking to your guns, you know?
Besides, adding to the pain just looks mean. I don't think he's a clay doll with no feelings and no understanding of what it all means for him. Poking the wounds with a dirty finger is mean. He really should be left alone, and probably left at home. And then Yagudin should be brought in for comforting poor Joubie into oblivion. *gg*
Yeah, I know I've spoken about absolutely different thing, but I was almost bursting with it, so I need to tell somebody :)
I'm all for democracy - it really should be like in USA. There you can be the greatest of the greatest, but if you were not among the first three you can farewell to Championships/Olympics this year (we are not speaking about some cases like traumas or something else). But if you already know that the head of Federation is an idiot, it is just useless to speak about it and be suprised. An idiot is behaving like an idiot - such a surprise! And Joubert's fans are being again and again surprised!
And speaking about Nationals, Joubert wasn't participating this year (and it was for the best for his Olympic dream, because he was in no condition to be among the first three)
I'm really in love with your word "Lutaesque" ))) And the idea of comforting poor Joubert )))
